Victors Notes on Equipment
I'm going to throw a bunch of links to the stuff I talk about during this segment so don't worry. You will see many of the links are for http://www.sweetwater.com/ These guys are very good and this is NOT an ad, they know what theya are doing , but of course you can also check out Amazon.com BSW Audio and others. My preference for Sweetwaters is based on my experience with them.

The Podcaster offers an end-address configuration, the clarity of RODE's tailored-for-voice frequency response, an "ON" LED, a direct headphone amp, and of course very low self noise. The microphone offers a switchable high-pass filter and comes complete with a 5M USB cable. Optional extras include a shock mounting system and soon-to-be-released Anglepoise style table mount arm.
Do you even need a mixing board?
Well I think in many cases no. You can get an execlent Audio enterface that will provide you with excellent quality.
EDIROL US 1E-X US $79.95

Zero-latency hardware monitoring
Headphone/level control
Bus powered for use with any PC or Mac, including laptops
Microphones. Due to lack of time I won't go into all the reasons but sufice it to say that I tend to like Dynamic mics for podcast producing since they are more forgiving of background noises etc that happen in home recording.
Mics are a very personsal thing so go over to your local music store and try some out.
Let me give you three that I think rock
Heil PR 20 US $150.00: elsie has been using this one for a while tell us about it.
http://www.amazon.com/Heil-PR-20-Diaphragm-Dynamic-Microphone/dp/B0002TR03O/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=musical-instruments&qid=1208128078&sr=8-1
Heil PR 40 US $350. This is the mic I use today , the mic Leo Laporte and many other podcasters use
http://www.amazon.com/Heil-Dynamic-Studio-Recording-Microphone/dp/B000BQXOEM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=musical-instruments&qid=1208128150&sr=1-1
Shure SM7B US $350.00
http://www.amazon.com/Shure-SM7B-Microphone-Switchable-Response/dp/B0002E4Z8M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=musical-instruments&qid=1208128202&sr=1-1
This is another industry standard that has been around for about 30 years
It Flat, wide-range frequency response for exceptionally clean and natural reproduction of both music and speech. If you heard Paul Figgiani the other day on the show reviewing the Peak Pro 6 software he uses an SM7
Mixing Boards: Again there are lots of choices here and if you are going to be someone that has enough time dedication and dollars to go into this level of podcasting don't skimp you very much get what you pay for. That being
said I'm excited about the following mixers today.
on the lower end of price but not quality there is the new Mackie 402VLZ3 $99.00
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/402VLZ3/
Mackie outfitted the 402-VLZ3 with two phenomenal mic preamps, and switchable Hi-Z instrument inputs - ideal for the podcaster who wants a mixer but does not need any bells and whistles. No Auxialary channels here so you wont' be doing any Mix Minus Skype recording with this baby.
Middle New 802 VLZ3
This is an 8 channel version (3 of those channels are mics) of the 402VLZ3 US $199.00
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/802VLZ3
Here you get those great preamps , one auxilary buss and other channels for music etc.
Ok Both of those mixers are ANALOG the old fashion way no USB no Firewire, you have to come out of these mixers and get them to yoru mac using an audio interface or the built in interface on many macs
As far as USB Mixers , I'm excited (but have not tried) The new Alesis iMultimix 9R US$199.00
