Subject A:  WWDC Rumor talk

All things iPhone Rumors (add thoughts below)

Will we get the phone on June 9th?  Well I think the phone of course will be announced on the 9th but we will not see it being sold until the 29th of June. You will be able to order it on line but it won't ship until then .

Of course iPhone 2.0 software will be released and it will hold a couple of special goodies to go along with the 3G iPhone ?

What kind of applications do you guys we will seee from Apple and other key developers on day one ?

OS X Leopard what should we expect in 10.5.3?

My prediction here is that Leopard 10.5.3 will be ready on the 9th and will include better iPhone intergration, improvements to the dot mac platform in the way of intergration with the iPhone. I also belive that we will see an update of the iLife suite in preperation for software intergration with the iPhone.

What about new Macs (Laptops, Minis, MacPRO's?)

In my opinion althought traditioanlly this has been the time when something like the MacPro updates are announced we wont' see any big announcements in this area.

What do you guys all thing the "one more thing" to follow all of this could be?

Subject B: Screencasting Tips from Victor

Record the same dimensions that you plan to publish in . So if you have your screen resolutions at 800X600 then make sure you record at that same resolution

Change wall Paper to right one for backgroup

Sounds check. Make sure that on your screencasting application you have selected what quality you want to record in , if you are recording your external mic only, do you want system sounds to play etc. remember these settings as you will need them later for transcodiing.

Go to system preferences and turn off the date and time from your menu bar (this can just be distracting). Also turn off other menu bar apps you don't need.

Dashboard and expose turn everything off there

Use mousepose for pointer and turn it on

Do a dry run

Snap Pro X is what I tend to use but there are many others out-there today including screenium, screenflow and screenflick and ishowU which is fantastic for the money.

When you are done recording send it to the desktop

Open file after saving it and export it using the settings you want.

Preferences

Make the output the same size as size of screen

The frame rate can be lower than  29.97 and many people will tell you that since the screen is not moving a lot you can get away with 1/2 of this. I use 29.97 just to be safe. yes the file is bigger. You can use a smaller frame per rate to just send casual screen casts

If you recorded an audio track you are going to need to decide what quality you want the output to be. Again if it's for something important make it 44.1K and a high bit rate like 128bit

You can then use the output to transcode in Quicktime to whatever size you want to send out or publish. iPod, iPhone, Apple TV etc. These presets are there for you in Quicktime so use them. If you are going to do further editing in iMovie or Final Cut express or Pro then save the output to a high quality file so you have a good master to work from .

Subject C: Techniques for searching on Google

Use Quotes for Phrases "Podcasting"

Statistic bar shows where you serach , how many hits it came up with , what it searched for and how long it took

Google shows the title of the web page at as the link

Beneath that is descriptive text that comes from the body text or may come from the Meta description put there by the owner. Then there is the address of the site and then to the right of that is says Cached

What that means is that the Google Spider has chaced this page (made a copy) and you can if you want go see the Google version of the Cached paged This is great even if a site has gone away.

Similar pages is going to take you to pages that are similar in search tems to what you are looking for

The intent is Googles way of showing a Second page to a site. SO the first line is the result and if you see an indent then you see an indent representing the secodn page only At the bottom you can do a cool thing called Search within results. This means that you can do a search based only on the hits you got. So very great way to narrow your search.

That's is the results page in a nutshell.

ADVANCE Search Page

All these words is the same thing as the reqular page

The "This exact wording or Phrase" is the same thing as a Quote search

One or more of these words is just an OR search

Without these words is a minus - search , so it can do it for you

You can limit your search to searches in a specific language. You can limit to english only

http://www.google.com/support/?ctx=web

YOu can also search google for files not just web pages

File type is wheree you can limit the search to specific types of dat

Date is where you can tell Google to only search for pages that are 24 hours old to anytime to the last month etc

Usage rights the google Usage Rights feature helps you find published content -- including music, photos, movies, books, and educational materials -- that you can share or modify above and beyond fair use.

If you set the search filter to 'free to use or share,' you'll get results that you can copy or redistribute.

If you set the filter to 'free to modify,' you'll get results that you can use, share, or modify. (Please be sure to select 'even commercially' if you want to use a work commercially.)

If you leave the filter at 'not filtered by license,' you'll simply get standard, unfiltered Google results.

Note: the Usage Rights feature identifies websites whose owners have indicated that they carry a Creative Commons license. By returning these search results, Google isn't making any representation that the linked content is actually or lawfully offered under a Creative Commons license. It's up to you to verify the terms under which the content is made available and to make your own assessment as to whether these terms are lawfully applied to the content.

Where your keywords show up lets you tell Google look for my keywords anywhere int he page, only the title of the page ,in the text of the page, the URL of the page or the links of the page. Very powerful.

The region lets you specify what region of the world you want to limit the search too. Anywhere or maybe just in the United States or the UK.

 SUBJECT D: EyeFi review

the Eye-Fi is a SD Card and Wi-Fi combo that allows you to take pictures and have them instantly uploaded to the photo sharing site of your choice or your computer. I really was skeptical when I saw product but fascinated at the same time since I often leave pictures on my camera for weeks at a time without remembering to save them or share them.

the Eye-Fi comes in a relatively small box with directions on the back and a quick start guide that is attached to the slide apart box. The card itself is loaded in a USB fob that you plug in to your computer (either Mac or Windows). The card comes preloaded with set-up programs for either Mac or Windows. The first step is to configure your Eye-Fi card using the Eye-Fi manger. Next you connect to your wireless access point. This is a simple process as it shows the available networks and allows you to add your password for network. Mine connected with no problem. You can add more than one network if you like.

You then are walked through setting up an account on Eye-Fi’s website, called Webshare. This allows you to pair your account with your computer and/or your favorite photosharing service (over 20 different sites). It also recognized my camera and gave me a link to Samsung to reset my power settings. I use Flickr and my photos uploaded with no problem. You can also set a local folder and using the Eye-Fi manager download pictures from your camera to your computer.

It took me five minutes to get everything working flawlessly.

Eye-Fi Products and Services

* Eye-Fi Home ($79.99) - 2GB SD Card, Wireless Uploads to your computer

* Eye-Fi Explore ($129.99) - 2 GBB SD Card, Unlimited Geotagging, Hotspot Access for 1 Year, Unlimited WebShare Service, Wireless Uploads to Computer

The services they offer for uploading and labeling include

* Webshare - Upload your photos to your favorite photo sharing site.

* Hotspot Access - Through a deal with Wayport the Eye-Fi can upload pictures from their

* Geotagging - Using location from your Wi-Fi access spot pictures can be automatically tagged for services that support geotagging like Flickr, Picasa, and SmugMug.

The Verdict

The Good:

I think this was the most well designed and easy-to-use gadget I have ever seen. It’s got an Apple-like simplicity to it. I am so impressed I am planning on buying one for my Mom who constantly struggles with uploading her pictures.

The Bad:

If you shut down your camera you don’t get your pictures uploaded. You must know to leave your camera on and you get no feedback. It only works on G wireless networks so I could not use it with my N network at all. You can add multiple networks to the card but if I was on a trip and wanted to use a hotel wi-fi for example, unless I had my MBP with me to define the network using their wi-fi manager software I'd be out of luck.

You can’t set a default tag for your pictures and by default they are tagged Eye-Fi. All minor but inconvenient. Ideally I would like to set a profile for my pictures with tags of my choosing. Finally, because you are now using your camera’s power to upload pictures and leaving it on much longer you will use more battery, keep that in mind when you are traveling and not near a wireless hotspot. You might want to use a conventional SD card as you don’t need to have your camera stay on to upload pictures and you won’t waste battery searching

Bottom Line:

I think this is a very useful gadget though if you are a serious photog who likes to pick and choose your shots you may not like it. However, if you use a service like Flickr that comes with Picnik you can make your edits online.
